Fun Experience of PTIIK Students as GSA 2014
Two students of Information Technology and Computer Science Program (PTIIK) UB; Ahmad Vicky Andiansah (SI / 2011) and Jasicka Indri Kusuma (IF / 2011) revealed that they gained a valuable and memorable occasion when selected as a Google Student Ambassador (GSA) 2014 on May 2, 2014.
"At first I saw an announcement about GSA on PTIIK website and decided to applied. Eventually I passed the selection and elected as a representatives GSA 2014 of UB and Malang," Jasicka said.
GSA program organized by Google in several areas around the world, such as; USA, Canada, Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Sub - Saharan Africa, India, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Latin America. Indonesian citizens can follow the GSA for Southeast Asia region. GSA program goal is for getting some young GSA candidates who will be able to become a liaison between Google and the university.
"So, the GSA will take in charge to provide correct information about various Google's products for the surrounding community, especially our campus environment. A lot of Google products such as Google Mail for UB students with unlimited storage and Google Apps for Education is actually very helpful but it rarely known and used by the students," Vicky said.
The selection process of determining the GSA, performed in one step by sending a video containing footage of GSA participants who explain about their self. In addition, GSA candidates are also required to fill an application form and make an essay about any ideas of computer science and digital marketing events. From all incoming applicants, selected 42 students Indonesia as GSA 2014 representatives from Brawijaya University, UI, ITB, UGM, Telkom Bandung, UIN, UNPAD, Diponegoro University and UNSRI.
Together with representatives from other Southeast Asian countries, all Indonesia representatives including Vicky and Jasicka get an opportunity to attend on series of briefing GSA events. First events is GSA Southeast Asia Summit (May 29th - June 2nd, 2014) which was held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Cebu, Philippines. At that events all participants received many knowledge and information from the Google representative such as about various Google products, the task of a GSA, Google Business Group and Developer Group. Meanwhile, the second debriefing events is Google Apps for Education training that hold in Google office in Bilangan Senayan, Jakarta.
"Glad to be elected as GSA 2014. Especially because it gave us an opportunity to become a representative of UB and Indonesia at the International Summit event. All of our accommodation and transportation costs financed by Google. In addition, we can also many knowledge, valuable experience and new friends from other countries," Vicky said.
All those knowledge that they gained from the GSA briefing events will be used by Vicky and Jasicka as a basic for organizing several events at UB especially PTIIK.
"With the support of Google and PTIIK, we will create several events to introduce more about Google products that can be used by UB students. In addition, we also have a plan to set up Google Student Group. In that group we will build an intens communication with UB junior students and prepare them to join GSA program next year," Vicky said. [dna]
